Hurricane Creek Cleanup 04/07/12

It's that time again for the annual Hurricane Creek Cleanup for 2012. This year we will have many fun things to do. After the tornado on Apr. 27, 2011 our campsite was decimated. We lost 100 % of our old growth canopy.

Along with the loss of trees, we had tons of garbage blown in from all over Tuscaloosa. Since FEMA, Tuscaloosa, and the Corps of Engineers would not help clean it up, it has fallen on us to do.
The creek is fairly clear now and safe for canoes and kayaks to traven down and pick up trash from the creekbanks while floating from a pristine forest into the strike zone.
Come on out and join us. This year we will also have on display, several pieces of lumber milled from the downed trees. With the landowners permission, and a great donation from ALTEC Environmental products we can now turn every piece of "woody debris" into useable, hich quality lumber and valuable mulch to given to tornado victims free of charge.
Map to the cleanup site... From 15th street in Tuscaloosa follow 15th to the Hwy 216, turn onto 216 North (left from town). Follow that until you cross over Hurricane Creek, continue on 216 to the 3rd paved road on the left, Turn Left onto Co. Rd 88. Follow 88 to the first "T" stop sign and turn left onto Holt Peterson Rd. Traven about a mile until you cross the creek bridge and the cleanup is located there.
From Jack Warner... Take Jack Warner (River Road) to the end in Holt at Crescent Ridge Road, turn left. The stop is only a few feet from the turn. Turn Right onto Alabama Ave. Follow Ala. Av. to the fork in the road, take the right hand fork, Holt Peterson Rd. Follow Holt Peterson Rd to the cleanup site at the bridge over Hurricane Creek.
